  Journal Analysis Project

Summary: Journal of Research on Technology in Education

Group 4: Sarah Davis, Jaime Rearley, Jill Stassie, & Adam Williams

Group four decided to complete the journal analysis project on the Journal of Research on Technology in Education.  Our group looked at the topics, settings, data collection methods, and research methods used in the research articles found in this journal during the years of 2008, 2009, and 2010.  The four bar graphs that are found below outline the most common occurrences for each identified topic, setting, data collection method, and research method.

After reviewing the topics found throughout this journal it is evident from the bar graph that in the years 2009 and 2010 there was a tremendous amount of research done in the fields of media style and psychology of learning and instruction.  In addition, the settings bar graph demonstrates that a majority of the research was conducted in the K-12 setting in the years of 2008, 2009, and 2010.  Furthermore, the data collection methods bar graph illustrates that researchers used surveys and questionnaires to gather data.  Finally, the research method bar graph exhibits that researchers used a descriptive model to obtain data.

The Journal of Research on Technology in Education demonstrates the importance of qualitative research in the field of education.  The descriptive style of the articles and use of surveys, observations, and interviews throughout the three years illustrates the significance of qualitative research.  Achieving desired learning outcomes in education with the assistance of technology is a reoccurring theme. The qualitative nature of the studies helps readers to better understand the process of this pursuit.
